1. Acceptance of Terms

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) constitute a legally binding agreement between you and Anvil Financial LLC, doing business as Anvil (“Anvil,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), governing your use of the Anvil application, website at anvil-financial.com, and all related services (collectively, the “Service”).

By creating an account, accessing, or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Service.

By creating an account, you consent to receive electronic communications from us (including emails and in-app notifications). You agree that all agreements, notices, disclosures, and other communications we provide electronically satisfy any legal requirement that such communications be in writing.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to use the Service. By using Anvil, you represent and warrant that you are at least 18 years of age, have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms, and are not barred from using the Service under applicable law. The Service is intended for use within the United States only. We make no representations that the Service is appropriate or available for use in other jurisdictions.

3. Account Registration

To use certain features, you must create an account. You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information and to keep your account credentials confidential. You are responsible for all activity under your account.

You may sign up using email and password or through Google OAuth. We may suspend or terminate accounts that contain inaccurate information or are used in violation of these Terms.

4. Service Description

Anvil is a personal finance dashboard and educational AI tool that helps you track spending, create budgets, manage debt, set savings goals, monitor net worth, and analyze your financial data. The Service includes:

  • Manual and automated (via Plaid) transaction tracking
  • Budget creation and monitoring
  • Debt payoff planning (avalanche and snowball strategies)
  • Savings goal tracking
  • Net worth and cash flow analysis
  • Portfolio and investment tracking
  • AI-powered financial insights and analysis
  • Financial projections and planning tools
  • Data export in Excel format

5. Financial Information Disclaimer

IMPORTANT: Please read this section carefully. It affects your legal rights.

Anvil is an educational and informational tool. Anvil is NOT:

  • A registered investment advisor (RIA) under the Investment Advisers Act of 1940
  • A broker-dealer registered with FINRA
  • A financial institution, bank, or credit union
  • A credit counseling agency
  • A consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act
  • A tax preparer, accountant, or legal professional
  • A money transmitter or payment processor
  • A fiduciary under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA) or any state equivalent

The information provided through the Service — including dashboards, charts, projections, debt strategies, budget suggestions, and AI-generated insights — is for educational and informational purposes only. Nothing in the Service constitutes personalized financial, investment, tax, legal, or accounting advice.

You are solely responsible for your financial decisions. Before making any financial decision, consult with a qualified financial professional, tax advisor, or other appropriate expert. We make no representations about the suitability of any information for your specific situation.

No fiduciary relationship is created between you and Anvil by your use of the Service. Anvil does not endorse, recommend, or guarantee any specific financial products, investments, or strategies.

5.1 Projection Disclaimer

Financial projections, forecasts, and planning tools within the Service are for illustrative purposes only and do not guarantee future results. Actual outcomes may differ materially from projected figures. Past performance does not indicate future results. All investments carry risk of loss.

5.2 Tax Information Disclaimer

Any tax-related estimates or information shown in the Service are estimates only. Consult a qualified tax professional before making tax-related decisions or filing tax returns.

5.3 No Money Movement

Anvil does not move, transfer, or manage money on your behalf. The Service provides read-only access to your financial data and may send notifications or suggestions, but never initiates financial transactions.

6. AI Assistant Disclaimer

Anvil includes an AI-powered assistant (“Anvil AI”) that can analyze your financial data, answer questions, and generate insights. This feature is powered by Anthropic’s Claude API.

Anvil AI is an educational tool, not a registered investment advisor. AI-generated responses do not constitute financial advice. Always verify AI outputs with qualified professionals.

6.1 Accuracy Limitations

AI-generated responses may contain inaccurate, incomplete, misleading, or outdated information due to the probabilistic nature of artificial intelligence. The AI assistant may occasionally produce incorrect calculations, misinterpret your data, or generate information that does not apply to your situation.

You assume all risk associated with reliance on AI-generated outputs. You must independently verify all AI-generated information, calculations, and suggestions before making any financial decisions.

To the extent that any jurisdiction does not permit the complete assumption of risk described above, our liability for AI-generated content is limited to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law and is subject to the limitations set forth in Section 14.

6.2 Data Handling

When you use the AI assistant, relevant financial context from your account is transmitted to Anthropic for processing. Your data is not used to train Anthropic’s AI models. See our Privacy Policy Section 4 for complete details.

6.3 Sensitive Information

Do not share Social Security numbers, passwords, full account numbers, or other highly sensitive personal information in AI conversations. While we implement safety filters, you are responsible for the information you choose to share.

6.4 No Suitability Assessment or Recommendation

Anvil AI does not perform “suitability” assessments within the meaning of FINRA Rule 2111, the SEC’s Regulation Best Interest, or any similar rule. Anvil AI does not make personalized investment recommendations, does not determine whether any specific investment, security, or strategy is appropriate for your individual financial situation, and does not purport to act on behalf of an investment adviser, broker-dealer, or fiduciary. Any analysis, commentary, projection, or comparison generated by Anvil AI is for educational and informational purposes only. You alone are responsible for determining whether a given course of action is suitable for you, and you should consult a qualified, licensed professional before making any investment, tax, legal, insurance, or other financial decision.

7. Third-Party Financial Data

When you connect bank accounts through Plaid, you authorize Plaid to access your financial data on your behalf. By linking an account, you acknowledge and agree that:

  • Plaid’s Terms of Service and Privacy Policy apply to data processed by Plaid
  • We are not responsible for the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of data provided by your financial institutions through Plaid
  • Transaction categorization is automated and may contain errors — you should review and correct categories as needed
  • Account balances and transaction data may be delayed or incomplete due to your financial institution’s systems

You can disconnect linked accounts at any time through Settings. Disconnecting revokes our access token and stops data synchronization.

8. Subscription and Billing

8.1 Pricing

Anvil offers paid subscription plans. Current pricing is displayed on our website and within the Service. We reserve the right to change pricing with at least 30 days’ advance notice. Price changes will not apply to your current billing period.

8.2 Auto-Renewal

Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period (monthly or annual) at the then-current price unless you cancel before the renewal date. You authorize us to charge your payment method on file for each renewal period.

We will send a reminder email before your subscription renews. You may cancel at any time through Settings or by contacting legal@anvil-financial.com.

8.3 Cancellation

You may cancel your subscription at any time in-app with a single click (see Section 8.7). Upon cancellation, you will retain access to Pro features through the end of your current billing period. After that, your account will revert to the Free tier. Your data will be preserved.

8.4 Refunds

Subscriptions are generally non-refundable. However, if you cancel within 7 days of your initial subscription purchase and have not substantially used Pro features, you may request a full refund by emailing legal@anvil-financial.com. Renewal charges are non-refundable.

8.5 Payment Processing

Payments are processed by Stripe. By subscribing, you agree to Stripe’s Terms of Service. Your payment information is handled entirely by Stripe and never touches our servers.

8.6 Auto-Renewal Disclosures

Before you complete your initial subscription purchase, we will clearly disclose: (a) that your subscription will automatically renew; (b) the length of each renewal period (monthly or annual, matching your initial selection); (c) the renewal price (or that it will be the then-current price if changed with notice); and (d) how to cancel. We will send you a confirmation of your auto-renewal terms at the time of your initial purchase and a renewal reminder email before each renewal is processed.

8.7 One-Click Cancellation

You can cancel your Pro subscription at any time in the Anvil application. Navigate to Settings → Membershipand click “Cancel subscription.” Cancellation is completed in-app with a single confirmation click. No email, phone call, or interaction with Anvil personnel is required. Cancellation may be completed on the same device and account you used to subscribe.

Upon cancellation, your Pro access continues through the end of your current paid billing period. No partial refunds are issued for unused time except as required by applicable law or as provided in Section 8.4 (first-time subscriber refund window). At the end of the billing period your account access ends and no further charges are made. You may reactivate your subscription at any time before the end of your billing period by clicking “Resume my subscription” on the Settings → Membership screen. This commitment is made in compliance with the Restore Online Shoppers’ Confidence Act (ROSCA, 15 U.S.C. §§ 8401–8405) and applicable state automatic renewal laws, including Florida §501.165 and California Business & Professions Code §17602.

9. Subscription Features

Anvil is a paid subscription service. An active subscription includes:

  • Dashboard, transactions, budget, net worth, debt payoff, savings goals, and cash flow analytics
  • Automatic bank account linking and transaction import via Plaid
  • Cinder AI financial assistant
  • Financial Planner, Portfolio tracking, and all other features
  • Data export in Excel format

We may modify, add, or remove features at any time. Material reductions to features during your billing period may entitle you to a prorated refund.

10. Partner Access

You may grant read-only or collaborative access to designated partners, such as a spouse, accountant, or financial planner (collectively, “Partners”), through our Partner Access feature when available. By enabling Partner Access, you acknowledge and agree that:

  • Partners will be able to view your financial data, including account balances, transactions, budgets, goals, and AI conversation history, to the extent you authorize
  • Partners must create their own account and accept these Terms of Service before accessing your data
  • You are responsible for selecting trusted Partners and managing their access permissions
  • Any actions taken by a Partner within your account (such as modifying budgets or goals) are considered authorized by you
  • Anvil is not liable for any errors, unauthorized actions, or misuse of your data by a Partner you have authorized

You may revoke a Partner’s access at any time through Settings. We reserve the right to terminate or restrict any Partner’s access if they violate these Terms or any applicable law.

Partner Access is a Pro feature and may not be available on all tiers. We may modify or discontinue Partner Access at any time.

11. User Conduct

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or to violate any applicable law
  • Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the Service

  • Attempt to access other users’ data or accounts
  • Submit false, misleading, or fraudulent information
  • Use the AI assistant to generate content that is harmful, illegal, or deceptive
  • Interfere with the operation of the Service or impose an unreasonable load on our infrastructure

The Service may contain links to third-party websites or services (including financial institutions, Plaid, and Stripe). We are not responsible for the content, accuracy, or practices of any third-party websites. Your use of third-party services is governed by their respective terms and privacy policies.

12. Intellectual Property

The Service, including its design, features, code, content, and trademarks, is owned by Anvil and protected by intellectual property laws. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service for personal, non-commercial financial management purposes.

You retain ownership of your financial data. By using the Service, you grant us a limited license to process your data solely to provide and improve the Service. We may use anonymized, aggregated data for analytics and product improvement.

If you provide feedback or suggestions about the Service, you grant us a perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free license to use that feedback for any purpose.

13. Mobile Applications

If we make the Service available as a mobile application, the following additional terms apply:

  • We grant you a revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable, limited right to install and use the mobile application on devices you own or control, solely for personal, non-commercial financial management
  • You shall not reverse engineer, modify, create derivative works from, or distribute the application
  • For applications obtained through the Apple App Store or Google Play, the respective App Distributor’s terms of service also apply
  • The App Distributor has no obligation to provide maintenance, support, or warranty for the application — that responsibility is ours
  • App Distributors are third-party beneficiaries of this section and may enforce it against you

Subscription purchases made through the Apple App Store or Google Play are subject to the respective platform’s billing terms and refund policies.

14. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL ANVIL, ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, OR AFFILIATES BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE.

OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATED TO THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNTS YOU PAID TO ANVIL IN THE SIX (6) MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM, OR (B) ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($100).

THIS LIMITATION APPLIES REGARDLESS OF THE THEORY OF LIABILITY (CONTRACT, TORT, STRICT LIABILITY, OR OTHERWISE) AND EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

WITHOUT LIMITING THE FOREGOING, ANVIL SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY FINANCIAL LOSSES, INVESTMENT LOSSES, TAX PENALTIES, OR OTHER MONETARY DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR RELIANCE ON INFORMATION, PROJECTIONS, ANALYSIS, OR SUGGESTIONS PROVIDED BY THE SERVICE OR ITS AI ASSISTANT FEATURES. YOU ACKNOWLEDGE THAT ALL FINANCIAL DECISIONS ARE SOLELY YOUR RESPONSIBILITY, AS SET FORTH IN SECTION 5.

SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OR LIMITATION OF CERTAIN DAMAGES. IN SUCH JURISDICTIONS, OUR LIABILITY IS LIMITED TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.

15. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY. WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, AND ACCURACY.

WITHOUT LIMITING THE FOREGOING, WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT:

  • AI-generated content will be accurate, complete, or suitable for any purpose
  • The Service will meet your specific requirements or expectations
  • Any projections, estimates, or calculations will reflect actual financial outcomes

16. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Anvil and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising out of or related to:

  • Your use of the Service
  • Your violation of these Terms
  • Your violation of any third-party rights
  • Financial decisions you make based on information from the Service
  • Any content or data you submit to the Service

17. Dispute Resolution and Arbitration

PLEASE READ THIS SECTION CAREFULLY. It requires you to arbitrate disputes and limits the manner in which you can seek relief.

17.1 Binding Arbitration

Any dispute, controversy, or claim arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service shall be resolved by binding arbitration administered by JAMS under its Streamlined Arbitration Rules and Procedures. The arbitration shall be conducted in English, and the hearing (if any) shall take place in the county where you reside or, at your election, by telephone or video conference. The arbitrator’s decision shall be final and binding.

For claims under $10,000, Anvil will pay all JAMS filing, administration, and arbitrator fees. For claims over $10,000, filing and arbitration costs will be allocated as determined by the JAMS Rules. Regardless of the outcome, each party bears its own attorneys’ fees unless the arbitrator awards fees to the prevailing party under applicable law.

17.2 Class Action Waiver

YOU AGREE THAT ANY DISPUTES WILL BE RESOLVED ON AN INDIVIDUAL BASIS. YOU WAIVE YOUR RIGHT TO PARTICIPATE IN A CLASS ACTION, CLASS ARBITRATION, OR ANY OTHER REPRESENTATIVE PROCEEDING. The arbitrator may not consolidate claims or preside over any form of representative or class proceeding.

17.3 Opt-Out Right

You may opt out of this arbitration agreement by sending written notice to legal@anvil-financial.com within 30 days of creating your account. Your notice must include your name, email address associated with your account, and a clear statement that you wish to opt out. If you opt out, disputes will be resolved in court under Section 19.

17.4 Exceptions

Either party may bring claims in small claims court if the claim qualifies. Either party may seek injunctive relief in any court of competent jurisdiction for intellectual property infringement or misappropriation.

18. Termination

You may terminate your account at any time through Settings by deleting your account. Upon deletion, we will:

  • Delete your profile, financial data, and account settings within 30 days
  • Revoke all Plaid access tokens for linked bank accounts
  • Cancel any active Stripe subscription
  • Retain only data required by law or for legitimate business purposes (such as transaction records for accounting)

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service for cause, including violation of these Terms, abusive behavior toward other users or our team, fraud, non-payment, or use of the Service for competitive purposes. For curable violations, we will provide written notice and a reasonable opportunity to cure (not less than 14 days) before termination, except where immediate suspension is necessary to protect the Service, its users, or comply with law. We may also terminate your account for any reason upon 30 days’ written notice.

Sections 5, 6, 12, 14, 15, 16, 17, and 19 survive termination.

19. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Florida, without regard to its conflict of law principles. If you opt out of arbitration or if the arbitration agreement is found unenforceable, you agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Florida.

20. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or through a prominent notice within the Service at least 30 days before the changes take effect. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you must stop using the Service and may delete your account.

21. General Provisions

  • Entire Agreement: These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Anvil regarding the Service.
  • Severability: If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force and effect.
  • Waiver: Our failure to enforce any right or provision does not constitute a waiver of that right or provision.

  • Notices: We may send notices to the email address associated with your account. You may send notices to legal@anvil-financial.com.
